Studying for your mortgage exam can be tricky! Balancing your time and responsibilities with all your coursework can definitely pose a challenge at times. That doesn’t mean it isn’t possible though. I have compiled a list of studying tips that really helped me get through my courses when I was in your position. Follow these simple tips to make the most of your time studying:

  1. FIND A QUIET PLACE WHERE YOU CAN CONCENTRATE

Your surroundings will make a huge difference in your ability to get through the material. Finding a quiet, comfortable place to sit down and concentrate with limited distractions for a couple hours is exactly what you need. Whether that’s your favorite coffee shop, your home office and a comfy spot on your couch, it doesn’t matter! The point is to create an environment that will encourage you to focus on your studies. Grab a coffee, put some sweats on, hit play on some music and give yourself undivided study time.

  1. TAKE IT ONE CHAPTER AT A TIME

The course can seem overwhelming when you look at it as a whole. But one chapter at a time is very much so doable. Set a goal of completing one chapter and worry about the next chapter later. Read all of the material, take notes along the way, review your notes and write the practice test then move onto the next chapter. One step at a time.

  1. WRITE ALL THE PRACTICE TESTS & PRACTICE EXAMS

The practice tests and exams are a really great way to judge where you are in terms of the knowledge you are retaining. If there is an area of the practice tests that you are consistently struggling with then that is a really good indication that you need to go back and review those subjects. It also will help you get your nerves out of the way for the real exam!

  1. USE CONNECTIONS IN THE INDUSTRY TO YOUR ADVANTAGE

If you know someone in the industry, they are a great resource for you! An individual with experience in the mortgage industry will be able to provide you with clarification and insight. Being able to relate the material to real life examples and experiences will only boost your knowledge and understanding of the subjects.

The best advice I can give you though is don’t forget your why! Remember while you are studying why you chose this path, remind yourself when it gets tough that there is a purpose to you doing this. The mortgage industry can provide you with a very fulfilling career where you have unlimited potential to grow and build the life you’ve been dreaming of. Keep your eyes on the prize and you’ll get there in no time!
